Resolutions

Resolutions

At this time of year we tend to look forwards and make some resolutions for the year ahead. What do we really mean when we make resolutions?
Resolution: a firm decision to do or not to do something.
Most of us have a bash at one or two, like drink less, exercise more, lose some weight, visit a lonely person more often. All a bit vague, and I sometimes wonder how firm our intentions. And does anything change?
Resolution: the act of solving a problem or finding a way to improve a difficult situation.
Perhaps we could consider this with regard to our health?
Many of us have parts of our bodies that are not functioning as well as we would like: creaky knees, stiff backs or painful shoulders. So we don’t feel able to do some activities we might enjoy such as walk in the countryside, swim or play tennis. Even everyday activities such as climbing stairs, getting out of a chair or reaching a high cupboard may have become a problem.
A resolution to sort out some of these physical issues could be a good place to start. Address the pain and strengthen the muscles.
In the majority of cases some advice and proper strengthening does the trick. The latter can be done on your own, under guidance or supervision individually, or in a group which can make it more fun.
It’s hard work and doesn’t achieve results without some effort but, my goodness it’s worth it!
Household jobs become easier and quicker, and you will spring up out of your chair and into your hiking boots!!
Happy new year from us all at Viney Hall!
