A variety of electrical treatments are available to aid your recovery. These may be to help with pain relief, thereby allowing you to regain normal movement and speed up healing. Other treatments are specifically used to reduce swelling or inflammation and to promote healing. Treatment to a very acute, swollen joint or muscle strain in the very early stages can often speed recovery dramatically. This, combined with appropriate advice as to what you should be doing at home – resting or exercising – can make all the difference in your long-term rehabilitation.

Electrotherapy is usually used in conjunction with other treatments such as manual or exercise therapy. At Viney Hall we have the following:

  • Ultrasound
  • Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound
  • Interferential Therapy
  • Pulsed Shortwave Diathermy
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
  • Traction – lumbar and cervical
  • Microcurrent

All treatments are well supported by evidence that they are effective.  Most are used to reduce pain and aid healing.  They are rarely used in isolation but as part of a variety of techniques, exercise and advice.
